NATTA Tour, Heritage & Culture Committee was held on Wednesday, the 31st August ’16 in the afternoon at NATTA Secretariat. The first meeting of the committee convened by its chairman Mr. Varun Mehta focused on the agenda of Cleaning Campaign, Follow up of Heritage Reconstruction, World Tourism Day Program and Hassles faced by tour operators during sightseeing. The meeting has decided to pressurize the concerned metropolises to adopt measures to eradicate the garbage problem from the cities, set up disabled friendly audio-visual means at the touristic sites to explain about the historicity of the places, traditional banners be replaced by digital banners. Committee Advisors Mr. Sunil Sharma, Director, NTB informed that mobile apps on heritage sites is under construction and soon it will be with all of us. Mr. Hare Ram Baral, IPP of TURGAN said that TURGAN has been providing tour guide services to tourists at the heritage sites on the WTD and this will continue this year too. The meeting urged Mr. Baral to explore the possibility of extending this service even in Bhaktapur and other areas of tourist interest. Mr. Ram Govinda Shrestha representing Bhaktapur municipality informed that the reconstruction of heritage sites in Bhaktapur is being done very rapidly with the cooperation of the department of archeology (GON), Mr. Dilli Raj Shakya, representative from Lalitpur Municipality raised the issue of the lack of proper dumping site in the valley due to which the cities have been facing a serious problem of waste management. Ms. Yubica Bhandari MD of Shashi’s Holidays said that the committee should take the initiation to coordinate with the concerned authorities to set up information centres, install proper sitting facilities and orient the locals regarding the segregation of wastes and its management at the heritage sites frequented by the tourists and thereby help enhance the beauty of the sites. The Co-chairman of the committee Mr. Sudhir Kumar Upadhyay emphasized on the implementation of audio presentation at the heritage sites and assured the meeting that NATTA will soon initiate and expedite. The two hour long meeting concluded with the vote of thanks by Chairman Mr. Varun Mehta. He also declared that the next meeting will be held in the third week of September, 2016.
