On 22nd December, Thursday, NATTA formally concluded a series of training programs under the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP), a joint venture of UNDP Nepal & Nepal Tourism Board which began from August till December with the goal of re-skilling and upskilling human resources in the hospitality industry.
In the context of the global outbreak of Covid-19, the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) started its essential training programs for skilled manpower and enhancing the capacity of the old manpower to re-operate the tourism business of Nepal in all seven provinces with the support of UNDP under the Nepal Tourism Board.
The training programs included “Airlines Ticketing”, “Tour Product Development”, and “Customer Service Training” which were held at Biratnagar of Province-1, Simara of Madhesh Province, Kathmandu of Bagmati Province, Pokhara of Gandaki Province, Butwal of Lumbini Province, and Nepalgunj for Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province. This training program benefitted around 400 participants.
The event officially started by presenting the Khada to the Chief Guest Mr. Suresh Adhikari, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation, Special Guest Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, CEO, NTB, NPD, STLRP and the Resident Representative of UNDP Nepal Ms. Ayshanie Medagangoda Labe by NATTA President Mr. Ramesh Thapa and Secretary General Mr. Kumar Mani Thapaliya. Mr. Thapaliya initiated the event by making brief remarks regarding the initiative, Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP). The ceremony was followed by lighting the lamp by the chief guest in the presence of other respected guests; NTB Board Members, NATTA Board Members, Board Members of NATTA Provinces, Tourism Associates, NTB Officials, Trainers and Trainees.
At the ceremony, the training manual jointly published by NATTA and Nepal Tourism Board & UNDP Nepal was also unveiled. Then, the program was smoothly carried forward by short remarks and presentations by the respected guests with the visual presentation by the Training Coordinator and Secretary of NATTA, Ms. Yubika Bhandari. After the brief remarks, the Chief Guest, Special Guest, and NATTA President awarded certificates to the trainer, each Province & Chapter Representative, Supervisors, and participants. A special appreciation was presented to Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP) for supporting NATTA in short term job programs as well as in training programs. President Mr. Thapa formally concluded the event with the commitment to working together again to develop human resources and skilled labor in the tourism industry.
As a part of Skill Development Training the tourism personnel, NATTA had the opportunity to organize Training programs in association with the Sustainable Tourism Development Project of the Nepal Tourism Board started from October to November in all the Provinces of NATTA. These training were organized with the assistance of well-known Tourism Specialists to make the Nepalese tourism industrialist familiar with current knowledge and its trends theoretically and practically. Mr. Vinay Shakya, Mr. Rabindra Hyaumikha, Dr. Rajiv Dahal, Mr. Anup Thapa, Mr. Pankaj Pradhananga, Mr. Roshan Ghimire, Mr. Sunil Dahal and together three different GDS; Amadeus, Galileo and Sabre. The first Training started from Kathmandu by Tour Product Development and continued in several Provinces and lastly, the final training was held in Kathmandu by Customer Service Training.
