A three- member NATTA Delegation met Mr. John Rankin, the acting ambassador of the UK at British Embassy last Thursday, the 28th May ’15 at his office in Lainchaur. The delegation was led by NATTA President Mr. D.B. Limbu. Secretary General Ms. Mihika Dhakhwa and CEO Prof. Dr. Hari Sarmah were in the delegation. The acting ambassador of Britain was apprised of the current scenario of tourism in the country in the aftermath of the disastrous earthquake of April 25. NATTA President expressed thanks and gratitude on behalf of Nepalese Tourism fraternity for all support and cooperation extended to Nepal as relief for the earthquake victims by the friendly people and the Government of Britain. Secretary General Ms. Mihika Dhakhwa focused on the number of British nationals coming to Nepal as visitors. In 2012 the figure of the arrivals from Britain stood at a little more than 41 thousand and the figure squeezed down to 35 thousand in 2013. The NATTA delegates envisaged on British support in rebuilding the country’s tourism and also requested that the embassy could help us a lot by bringing in some relaxation in the travel advisory and by disseminating positive messages to the British nationals. Mr. Rankin emphasized on massive marketing and development of contacts with their British counterpart. He also said that in case of any important event in Nepal being organized by NATTA, the British Embassy in Nepal would be more than happy to bridge contacts with British travel companies. CEO Prof. Dr. Hari Sarmah on behalf of NATTA thanked His Excellency for his very kind gesture and citing John Milton’s Paradise Lost told him that Nepal has though been rocked by the M 7.9 r.s., her people are determined to get back to normalcy with the support and co-operation of Nepal’s friends especially UK.
