NARA held its 28th AGM at Hotel Manang on 3rd September 2016 graced by Hon'ble Minister for Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Jeevan Bahadur Shahi. President Mr. Madhu Sudan Acharya and Secy. General Mr. Bhim Prasad Panta participated in this general meeting of NARA. President Acharya delivered a felicitation speech expressing NATTA’s best support and integrity in all efforts of NARA to uphold Nepal Tourism. The meeting had the presence of representatives from tourism associations, government dignitaries.
NATTA organized B2B with members of Travel Agent Federation of India (TAFI) and stakeholders of Nepal at Hotel Malla, Kathmandu on September 2, 2016. TAFI members led by Chairman, Mr. Ashwini Sharma, have been invited to Nepal for their AGM. Their trip was hosted by Nepal Airlines and Nepal Tourism Board and supported by NATTA. Speaking at the Opening Session of the B2B, TAFI Chairman Sharma said that Nepal had been unduly projected by many Indian media as unsafe due to the earthquake in 2015; and he found the reality just the reverse upon arriving here. The first meeting of the committee convened by its chairman Mr. Varun Mehta focused on the agenda of Cleaning Campaign, Follow up of Heritage Reconstruction, World Tourism Day Program and Hassles faced by tour operators during sightseeing. The meeting has decided to pressurize the concerned metropolises to adopt measures to eradicate the garbage problem from the cities, set up disabled friendly audio-visual means at the touristic sites to explain about the historicity of the places, traditional banners be replaced by digital banners. A NATTA delegation, comprising of all the executive members & CEO, led by President Madhu Sudan Acharya, called on newly appointed Minister for Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation (MOCTCA) Hon’ble Jivan Bahadur Shahi at his office in Singhadurbar on Tuesday morning, the 30th August, 2016. Offering a bouquet President Acharya, on behalf of NATTA , extended profound congratulations and best wishes for a great success of his tenure in office. NATTA will soon be having a formal meeting with Hon’ble Minister for a comprehensive discussion on NATTA’s issues of concern in tourism sector. Minister Shahi was also given a short brief about NATTA and its ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations that culminates on 09th December 2016 in Kathmandu amidst a grand program.
The first meeting for the preparation of Makalu-Kanchanjunga Diamond Jubilee Celebration Organizing Committee was held on 24th August 2016. Nepal Government had nominated NATTA as a member in the committee headed by the Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation Ministry. The committee member comprises of representatives from metropolitan cities, tourism associations, and district offices. Secretary General Mr. Bhim Prasad Panta and Executive Member Mr. Ghanashyam Ghimire represented NATTA in the above meeting. The celebration is scheduled to take place on November 18 and 19 with great pomp and grandeur. This had to be celebrated last year on May 15 and 25 but due to the devastating earthquake that rocked the country on April 25, 2015, it was postponed.
A brief meeting was held with CEO, NTB Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi to reflect on NATTA’s two upcoming mega events viz., Golden Jubilee Celebration and 21st Convention on 9th December 2016. Mr. Joshi was enthusiastic towards the event and suggested to work on war footage for the promotion of destination. A proposal along with an estimated budgeted report will soon be presented to NTB seeking their support. A four member NATTA delegation led by President Mr. MadhuSudan Acharya met Mr. Dipendra Nath Sharma, Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development on 23rd August’16 at his office in Singhadurbar. NATTA delegates appraised Secretary Sharma of the longstanding demand of NATTA to have a permanent site in Kathmandu for the construction of Tourist Bus Terminal and also sought the intervention of the Ministry in the ongoing plight of Pokhara Bus Park. NATTA suggested that the responsibility to operate Pokhara Bus Park should be given to NATTA Western Regional Association (Pokhara) as per the earlier understanding.
SAMARTH-NMDP in coordination with Siddhartha Inc. has conducted a study program on "Feasibility Assessment & Proposal Formulation of a Certification System for Tourism SMEs". Executive Committee of NATTA led by President Mr. Madhusudan Acharya and NATO led by President Mr. Ashok Pokhrel held meeting on August 22, 2016 in Kathmandu about the issues and concerns the travel and tour operators in Nepal are facing. MOCTCA led Thematic Working Group on tourism, Natural and Cultural Heritage (TNCH) with the representation from relevant multi stakeholders. Its initial meeting was held on 16th August 2016 at Conference Hall of MOCTCA. As per the decision of the GON to formulate the National Adaption Plan which has been initiated by Ministry of Population and Environment in coordination with United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change (UNFCC) on last September 2015 through working groups (TWGs). The group for Culture, Toruism and Heritage is led by MOCTCA. NATTA Secretary Mr. Sudhir Kumar Upadhyay and Executive Member Mr. Varun Mehta participated in the following above meeting called by MOCTCA.
A meeting between NATTA Executive Committee and SAMARTH (represented by Mr. Sumit Baral and Mr. Pranil Upadhayay) was held on August 15, 2016 at NATTA Secretariat regarding mutual collaboration in the celebration of NATTA Golden Jubilee and XXI Convention scheduled for December 9, 2016. SAMARTH, a project funded by DFID, has been working in multiple aspects of tourism primarily focusing on the areas which have not received much attention and support from government and mainstream tourism enterprise. The meeting focused on how both the organizations would integrate programs so as to contribute to the celebration of the Golden Jubilee. SAMARTH showed keen interest in the event and expressed its desire to work with NATTA in the issues which fit the scope of its work.
